When you think of physical therapy continuing education requirements, do you only think about taking courses? Most people do. However, there are many other activities that you can participate in that allow you to earn physical therapy CEUs. Many therapists informally act as mentors to others, but if you provide mentorship in a formal program, you may be able earn continuing education credit while helping a colleague.

Have you ever attended a state board meeting? Or a meeting of the APTA or one of it’s state chapters? Or maybe you are even interested in joining an APTA committee. While earning CEUs for these activities is probably not the primary motivation for someone to participate in them, it doesn’t hurt!

These requirements are determined individually by each state. While there are a few states that don’t have occupational and physical therapy CEU requirements, the majority do. Some states make it easy and simply require a total number of units or hours. Many states, however, make it more complicated.
